Cross-Listed Courses
Definition: Two or more courses of the same academic level (e.g., undergraduate with undergraduate, graduate with graduate) that share the same course content and CLOs but appear under different course IDs.
Syllabi Expectation: Because the courses are equivalent in level and content, faculty may use the same syllabus for each modality (e.g., main campus and online), provided that the syllabus is correctly uploaded to each course shell.
For example:
CN 103/EL 103 syllabi should include:
CN 103 / EL 103 50
CN 103 / EL 103 60
Parent/Child Courses
Definition: Courses that are paired across different academic levels (e.g., undergraduate and graduate). While they may meet together, they are distinct courses with separate course codes.
Syllabi Expectation: Parent/child courses must have separate syllabi uploaded. This is required because course learning outcomes (CLOs), assignments, and academic expectations differ between undergraduate and graduate students. Each syllabus should be clearly labeled and placed in the corresponding course shell folder.
For example:
MGT 602 / MG 437 syllabi should include:
MGT 602 50
MG 437 50
Both syllabi should be placed on the Syllabus page in the LMS
MGT 602 60
MG 437 60
Both of these syllabi should be placed on the Syllabus page in the LMS
In summary:
Cross-listed = one syllabus per modality
Parent/child = two distinct syllabi, one for each level
