Parent-child course listings allow the registrar to maintain separate course registrations and transcript records while maintaining a single instance of the course in the Learning Management System (LMS). Those courses may consist of a combination of graduate and undergraduate students (which have a different grading scale applied).

Gradebook Configuration

If you are delivering a course that has students in different grading schemas, it is important to update your gradebook in the LMS to reflect a "Grade Only".

  1. On the main gradebook screen, select Letter grade ranges.
  2. Select the dropdown for The current grade scale
  3. Select Grade_Only
  4. Click Save

Final Grade Submission

When the time comes to submit final grades through the LMS, you will need to change the Letter grade ranges back and manually adjust the averaged grade.

  1. Check the course enrollment report to determine which group has more students registered. If you cannot access this report, please contact support@carolinau.edu for access credentials.
  2. Modify the Letter grade ranges as you did before to accommodate that larger group and manually update the letter grade of the smaller group just before submitting those grade through the LMS. The two grading schemas used are CU_GR for the graduate scale and CU_UG for the undergraduate scale. As explained in the previous steps, select the appropriate schema and click save.
  3. Upon submission of final grades, use the dropdown to modify the automated letter grades from the selected schema.

4. Once the letter grades are accurately reflected, click Submit Selected Grades.
