First, navigate to the assignment in the course overview area or in the Coursework area using the course context navigation menu. The preferred method for this is by navigating through the coursework area as it may display a secondary due date for this type of assignment (a primary post due date and an assignment completion due date).
Click on the name of the assignment to open the instructions and view any additional information about the forum itself. You will again see any specific requirements for the forum on this page, including posting instructions provided by your professor and grading information pertinent to your course.
To add a post, click the link in the blue box that says, “To write a post or reply for this assignment Visit the Discussion…”
On the next page, click “Add Post” to create your post.
You will be prompted to add a subject and enter your text in the box. You will notice that there are text formatting tools to ensure your post meets the standards set by your professor. You will also notice a word count in that box.
If you are including a file for reference, please be sure you also include a copy of the text in the actual discussion forum box itself. Your professor and fellow students do not want to download a .doc file to read your posts. You will get a much better response from fellow students and professors by using the text box provided for you. Once you are satisfied with the appearance of your posts, you may either preview the post or submit it using the buttons just below the text box.
To reply to other posts, click the name of the post you would like to interact with and click “Reply” to get the same text box you saw when creating your primary post.
Keep in mind, the due dates and work count requirements may automatically dismiss submissions you create. Be sure to pay close attention to the requirements as specified in the assignment link from the coursework area.
